Rj Arkhipov

[http://www.the12project.com/September] --- An original poem written and narrated by RJ Arkhipov for The12Project's September 2015 production, Yearn.

Extending, never-ending before us:

whitened waters & quickened skies.

Expanding infinities stretching

wide, distinct, yet always side by side.

Exciting conflict in salty strides

while brine-born words reach up in tides and tender

extant questions high and true.

Why do the waves take twilight's hues?

Exhaling along a horizon strong, the

whining echoes of a hollow song.

---

In this poem there are two very distinct entities: the sea and the sky. Both infinite. Both characteristic of variable states and traits. Calmness or violence. Stillness or agitation. Inviting or harsh. Kindness or danger. Beauty or destruction. Both the waves and the winds can exhibit such qualities. These two entities, despite their similarities and differences, are separated by the greatest dividing line of them all: the horizon. No matter how fervently the tides reach up or how low the winds may sink, the horizon does not falter.

Stylistically, you will notice that each line of the poem alternates with words that phonemically begin with [ɛks] and [waɪ]. This is to reference the male chromosomes, XY: the name of the poem.
